Te Araroa Trail Tararua Ranges
I started the day at 6.45am and left a koha (donation) for Sally at the Makahika Outdoor Pursuits Centre. The start of the off-road section of trail into the Tararua ranges was a few kilometres down Ponds Road.
Last night Sally recommended an alternative route to the regular trail today. Taking this alternative meant I ended up at the same hut - but it was quicker, less muddy and apparently much prettier than the regular route. I was convinced...
Te Araroa Trail Half Way!
If you're paying attention, you will have noticed today's mileage!
I hit the 1520km HALF WAY point of Te Araroa Trail today - I can't quite believe it! The first half has been brilliant :-) The second half will be a lot more remote and mostly ups and downs, which will be a lot tougher... I can't wait!

I woke early in a bit of a panic as I heard rain on the tent... I jumped up and moved everything from inside the tent to under the eaves of Glen's house & packed up the tent. The rain didn't amount to anything.

I had a great sleep last night. I wore my compression sleeves on my calves as I'm getting twitchy legs which has been preventing me from going to sleep. I'm not sure if it was just the placebo effect but it seemed to work!!
