Te Araroa Trail Ngaruawahia to Hamilton

I woke to another beautiful sunny Waikato day! Yoke met me at 8.30am and we went to visit the ladies at Ngaruawahia Community House, my local community centre, who I am fundraising for. See my givealittle page for details on how you can donate, if you’d like to show your support.

We got on the trail around 9.15am and made really good time to the new Perry Bridge and on to Hamilton. Hamilton peeps, if you haven’t walked or ridden the river path you must do it!! It’s so beautiful I can’t believe I didn’t do it before now. If you walk it beware – there are no toilets between Ngaruawahia and the city outskirts, so being comfortable with nature-pees is a must.

We lunched in the city (donburi, yum!) then headed off trail to Hamilton East where Yoke & I parted ways… It’s been great having the support of another trail angel!

I walked another few Kms to see my physio and get more treatment on the knee muscle. Really annoyingly I had worn my faithful old running shoes for today’s stretch of the trail, and got blisters on my heels again!! grrr…..

Later I popped into my former workplace and caught up with a few friends for a quiet beer, which was great 🙂 then back to Neil’s again for a hearty dinner.. I honestly can’t thank him enough for looking after me so well. I packed my resupplies for the journey… I’m a bit nervous about doing Pirongia mountain tomorrow with a full pack.
