Training for Te Araroa Trail

To quote a recent “Runner’s Worlds” Facebook post, I would say I was 20% athlete and 80% cake. I could have trained a lot more but then again, I’ll have done more than some. My normal routine is 30 mins of living-room yoga at 5.30am, a 5k run a few lunchtimes per week, a 10k race once a month, and up the Hakarimata steps (1349 of ’em) as many times as I can.

Recently I’ve added the occasional pre-work 5k with a loaded pack, and in this final month I’ll be doubling the Haks effort (warm up climb + pack climb per session) plus upper body strength training at the gym.

I will also be making a concerted effort to eat more cake…
