SWCP Day 37. Peak Hill, Sidmouth to Stonebarrow Hill, Charmouth

Today's distance walked - approx 38 kms (23.6 miles).
Ascent - approx 1661m (5449 ft).

I woke at 5.30am and spent a while getting myself together and finishing my blog for the past couple of days. As I was finishing up, a few big fat spots of rain fell on the tent. I got the tent packed away quickly, because I didn't want to carry it wet, but in my haste I damaged a tent pole a little bit which I mended with the duct tape I keep wrapped around my hiking poles. The rain turned out to be...

SWCP Day 34. Sharkham Point, Brixham to Torquay

Today's distance walked - approx 22.2 kms (13.8 miles).
Ascent - approx 715m (2346ft).

I had a bit of a sleep-in this morning and woke at 6.30am. I had a leisurely breakfast and waited for the sun to come out, to dry my tent. I left at 9am. I promised myself I wouldn't walk fast enough to break into a sweat today, but I have a tendency to make a sport out of everything.. so soon enough I had broken my rule.

Much of the pathway to Berry Head was in a tunnel of trees, which made thing a...

SWCP Day 33. Slapton Ley nature reserve to Sharkham Point, Brixham

Today's distance walked - approx 29kms (18 miles).
Ascent - approx 1255m (4117ft).

I'm clean!! At time of writing I'm in a campsite sitting in my bikini top and rain pants having had a wonderful, free, hot shower. I'm waiting for all my other clothes to wash. It feels great after the creepy crawly past few days :-)
In my rather public beachside wild camp spot I woke in the night to see flashing lights, which puzzled me. I poked my head out of the tent and it was the Start Point lighthouse,...

SWCP Day 30. Plymouth to Hilsea Point, Gunrow ‘s Down

Today's distance walked - approx 17 kms (10.5 miles).
Ascent - approx 400m (1312 ft).

I had a fabulous time off trail on days 28 and 29, highlights of which included the St Breward village summer carnival, visiting Bodmin Moor, and seeing practically all of Cornwall from its highest point. The weekend's wildlife treats were seeing a large adder snake on the moors, and watching 3 badgers at close range at night, rooting around and playing, which was really special.
Today I was back on trail,...

SWCP Day 26. Polruan to Polperro

Today's distance walked - approx 11.4 kms (7.1miles).
Ascent - approx 591m (1939ft).

I woke up early to thick fog and a tent wet with dew. I left the campsite at 7am and by the time I'd walked back to town, found the path, taken a wrong turn, retraced my steps, and found the path (which the other one led to anyway) it was 7.30am before I was really on the trail.

The trail felt a little more remote than the past couple of days, my legs felt good, and I enjoyed the trail. The fog slowly...

SWCP Day 25. Carlyon Bay to Polruan

Today's distance walked - approx 14 kms (8.6 miles).
Ascent - approx 445m (1460 ft).

I woke at 6am this morning and took my breakfast equipment to the (indoor/outddoor) lounge as it was spitting with rain. It rained on and off during the night, so when I finished breakfast I wiped down my tent and packed it still damp. I left at 8.30am. Despite the fact the campsite was packed, hardly anyone was up yet! I suppose everyone is on their holidays ;-) plus England won the football on penalties...
